
The World Masters Sports Championships (WMSC 2028) is the flagship global multi-sport event of the World Masters Sports Federation (WMSF), held every even years, bringing together Masters, Veterans, and Senior Citizens athletes (Age 25 years & above) from across the world. WMSF invites bids from National Masters Federations, Sports Associations, or City Governments wishing to host the 2028 Championships.
Eligible applicants:
A National or State Masters Sports Federation recognized by WMSF.
A City Government or Municipal Authority in partnership with a Local Organising Committee (LOC).
The LOC must include representatives from the Sports Ministry / Department, Tourism Board.
Each bid must include a minimum of 6 sporting events/disciplines, chosen from the official WMSF list of 42 Sports & Recreation Activities. However the following 5 Sporting & Recreation Disciplines are Compulsory:-
The LOC may propose additional optional sports to promote local interest and participation, subject to WMSF approval.
The recommended window for the 2028 Championships is January 2028 – February 2028 (flexible by ±2 months depending on climatic conditions of host city). The proposed duration should be between 4–14 days, including Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
Each sport must have technically approved venues as per international federation standards.
The bid dossier must include:
Venue names, locations, ownership status, and photographs.
Details of Toilets, lighting, changing rooms, spectator facilities, and accessibility for differently-abled athletes.
A Venue Map / Layout Plan showing proximity of venues to hotels, airports, and city center.
Written Letter of Availability from each venue owner (Municipal, University, or Private).
Each bid must attach the following official letters of commitment:
A letter on official letterhead from the City Mayor / Municipal Commissioner stating:
The city’s commitment to host and support the Championships.
Permission for use of public sports infrastructure, police, fire, medical, and civic support services.
A statement that the city will extend facilitation for visas, customs clearance, and logistics for foreign participants.
A full list of LOC members with designations and credentials.
The bid dossier must include:
Provisional Budget (in USD or local currency) showing:
Estimated Income: Registration Fees, Sponsorships, Grants, Government Subsidy, Ticketing, Merchandise, Tourism Promotion funds.
Estimated Expenses: Venue hire, technical equipment, medals, logistics, accommodation, transportation, publicity, WMSF fees.
A Letter of Financial Commitment from a bank, government agency, or sponsor confirming financial support.
If selected, the Host City / LOC shall pay a Event Sanction Fee of $10,000 to WMSF within 30 days of awarding.
A non-refundable Bid Submission Fee of USD 1,000 payable to WMSF at the time of submission.
Proposal for branding, publicity, social media, and live coverage.
Inclusion of WMSF logo and branding guidelines.
Plans for international media liaison and official website / registration portal.
